Back online, but still surrounded by boxes.

Our DSL is finally working at our new place, but I seem to have been cured of my web surfing addiction during the week without it. I actually have barely turned on my computer since it has been back up. I'm sure this will change when everything is finally unpacked and put away. I've finished with the important things (yarn, DVDs, Wii) but still need to finish the closet and kitchen so I can, you know, find decent clothes for work and cook actual meals. Nothing too pressing.

But but but... the best part is that everything can be put away, because there is room for everything! We have space that is not crammed full of stuff including an entire storage closet, still empty, off the balcony. This is just so amazing to me since we had books and DVDs stacked on the floor at the old place because there just. wasn't. space.

I haven't taken many photos yet, at least not any good photos, but here are two I managed to upload as a comparison. Click through to Flickr to see notes.

Almost there.

Just stopping by to say hi and to let you know that almost a week later, I am still without internet at home (thanks, AT&T, for having such stellar customer service).

There is around a car-load of random things left at the old place, along with a little bit of cleaning to do before we turn in the keys for good. I can’t wait for it to be finished! Here is a random list of thoughts and questions on moving that have been running through my head this last week. If you have any advice/experience on any of my questions, I’d love to hear it.

1) Libby was completely right; like a band-aid – right off! Trying to finish up everything that “won’t take too long” after work these last few nights has been miserable.

2) The situation was improved greatly by my parents driving up and helping us clean Wednesday night. They are the best.

3) Now that I have the extra space, I can’t decide how to store my yarn. Do I display it all on shelves? Do I display a few choice balls and keep the rest in the closet where it is safe? If I do display all or some of it, do I need to worry about the sunlight from the east-facing window shining on it regularly?

4) I am very pleased that our new town has Lake Michigan water instead of a local well. I think the lake water is very good, having grown up drinking it, and it is great to have good tasting water straight from the tap again.

5) We have a gas fireplace. Never used one before – is the pilot light supposed to be visible all of the time? I can hear the gas running when it is quiet. I hope it doesn’t cost too much just to run the pilot. Maybe I can shut it off of the summer and relight it in the fall?

I think that’s all for now. Thanks, my brain feels slightly less full. I have next Monday off work for Memorial Day, so I’m going to do a big push to get everything unpacked and put away so I can sit down and DO SOME KNITTING!!

Going to be missing my internets.

Just a quick note from work to say that we are moving this weekend! Hooray!

Please keep your fingers crossed that the weather holds out for the next few days. Moving is bad enough; I really don’t want to do this in the rain.

AT&T wasted no time disconnecting our phone and internet, so I am not sure when I will be online again. Most likely not until Sunday night, when we have the computers and modem set up at the new place.

I’ve got tons of photos to share and I’m sure to have more in the next few days.

(Anyone want to help carry boxes? A lot of them contain yarn…)

Finished: Trellis Scarf

Surprising even myself, I finished the Trellis Scarf in time for Mother’s Day. I can’t even begin to tell you how pleased I am with it. This is my first completed lace weight (although not lace knitting) project.

Too Good to Be True?

I finished the Trellis Scarf Monday night, and was extraordinarily impressed with myself for finishing in time and without any major problems or mistakes.

While blocking last night however I did uncovered a rather large problem.

help

Those three pins are holding three live stitches that started to unravel as I was blocking. It is a SK2P, or slip, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over - a three stitch into one decrease. I must have dropped it while doing the knit 7 together in the following row.

Luckily I caught it before it became a huge hole. I'm not exactly sure how, since it is only a few inches from the cast on edge and I have been tugging on it for weeks to see the lace better. I'm also not entirely sure how to fix it but I've asked on Ravelry and a a number of people have already come to my rescue. I think I am just going to catch all three loops in a piece of the yarn, and then weave in the ends in opposite directions. I want to try duplicate stitching the ends in to hide them, but my duplicate stitch always looks like crap and would probably be more obvious than well-woven ends.

Does anyone have any other advice for me? I think I am going to tackle this after dinner tonight. Fingers crossed!

A Quick Show and Tell

I am still plugging away on the lace scarf. I have a week left and should finish in plenty of time, barring any major disasters.

I stopped by Joann Crafts yesterday and found an adorable Clover Kritter case in the clearance section for $4.00. When they first came out I saw them somewhere (a magazine maybe?) and was tickled by the cuteness, but they were a little too pricey to justify at the time.

I picked a Koala, but they also had the alligator and hippo.

I don't know what I am going to put in him yet. Besides knitting tools, I actually need a new accessory pouch for my work bag. Hmmm... maybe I should go back and get another one!

You might want to stop by your local Joann's and see if they have them too. =)
